Greenarch Wins International Competition for the New Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Brussels
Greenarch has won an international competition to design the new Embassy of Brunei Darussalam to the Benelux and the Mission to the European Union. The project involves the transformation of an existing townhouse located at 47 Avenue Franklin Roosevelt, Brussels, into the nation’s new diplomatic headquarters. The building, abandoned for more than five years, is now set to be revived through an ambitious architectural and cultural renovation.
The Government of Brunei Darussalam acquired the property with the aim of developing a larger, more representative embassy, replacing the current premises located at 238 Avenue Franklin Roosevelt.
The architectural mission focuses primarily on a full interior redevelopment to create a distinguished showcase for Brunei within the Belgian and European institutional landscape. The program includes conference rooms, a large reception hall, and modern office spaces, all designed to meet the needs of a contemporary diplomatic institution.
Greenarch chose to preserve and enhance the building’s remarkable heritage features — including original marble and tiled floors, ornate ceiling moldings, and historic wooden doors. At the rear, the listed garden has also been carefully conserved in its original condition, maintaining the site's unique character and elegance.
This project reflects Greenarch’s expertise in heritage-sensitive transformation, combining architectural refinement with diplomatic prestige to create a new emblematic presence for Brunei Darussalam in Brussels.
